What is Eucommia?

What is Eucommia .webpThe bark of Eucommia ulmoides (a perennial deciduous tree termed eucommia hereafter) has anti-hyperlipidemia effects due to its bioactive components. However, the slow growth of eucommia bark leads toa deficit in this resource. Studies have shown that eucommia leaf has bioactive components similar to those ofeucommia bark and anti-hyperlipidemia effects.[1]

Eucommia History

Use of the E. ulmoides plant in traditional Chinese medicine began as early as 2,000 years ago.[2] The plant's bark and leaves contain the lignan pinoresinol diglucoside, which has potent antihypertensive properties. In folk medicine, the dried and heated outer portion of the stem has been used for supporting muscle and lung function, lowering blood pressure, preventing miscarriages, improving tone of the liver and kidneys, and increasing longevity.[3] In traditional Chinese medicine, the seed oil is commonly used to treat hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis, back pain in the lumbar region, and hip pain.[4] The leaves have been used in foods. An aqueous leaf extract known as du zhong tea is popular in China and Japan for treating hypertension and as a functional health food.

Eucommiaulmoides extract (EUOE) includes determined energetic compounds consisting of lignans, iridoids, phenylpropanoids, flavonoids, and so on. Amongst them, 27 substances have been separated from lignans, cycloolefins 15 substances have been separated from ether terpenes, 11 substances from phenylpropanoids, and 6 substances from flavonoids. Substances with pharmacological impacts consist of geniposide, geniposide, and syringin. , Chlorogenic acid, pinoresin diglycoside, eucommia alcohol, quercetin, peach fallen leave, coralline and various other ingredients. Presently, the energetic ingredients in the essencesof Eucommia ulmoides on the marketplace are mainly chlorogenic acid, along with geniposide acid, protocatechuic acid, pinoresinol diglucoside, pinoresinol monoglucose.

Application of Eucommia Extract

1.Eucommia bark (Eucommia ulmoides Oliver) has been used as an herbal medicine, and more recently, the plant's leaves have been widely used to prepare tea which may have anti-obesity properties.

Study on disease resistance of leaf extract of Eucommia Ulmoides

The results showed that nutrient ELE did not affect developmental efficiency and body structure (p > 0.05). Compared with the control group, plasma ALB content in 0.06% e-e group was increased (p < Plasma ALT and AST tasks decreased by 0.08% in ELE group (p < 0.05). In terms of antioxidants, compared with the control group, 0.06% diet ELE up-regulated the mRNA expression of Nrf2 path-related antioxidant genes CAT and SOD (p < 0.06% and 0.08% of diet plans up-regulated Hsp70 mRNA levels (p < 0.05). In terms of drug resistance, 0.06% ELE diet inhibited intestinal TLR2, MyD88 and NF-κB mRNA expression (p < 0.05). Finally, the Streptococcus agalactis challenge test showed that nutritional enhancement of 0.06% ELE could prevent microbial infection and significantly improve GIFT survival (p < 0.05). This study shows that nutritional enhancement of 0.04-0.06% ELE enhances intestinal antioxidant capacity, improves immune response, and ultimately enhances GIFT's resistance to Streptococcus agalactis.
